Do you need a good list of fiction fantasy for your family? Look no more!

“Sometimes fairy stories may say best what’s to be said.”
-C.S. Lewis

My children love tales of adventures and heroism.

I love stories that teach them to be humble leaders and faithful friends.

And when the two combine, we have a family favorite for sure.

Stories have been shaping my children’s thoughts and ideas since they were just toddlers. They delight in fiction like The Borrowers and The Littles. They thrill at fantasy such as Avi’s Ragweed series and Brian Jacques’ Redwall tales.

But I really celebrate when I find another series of books like C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia or Tolkien’s The Hobbit that teaches them character and valor from a Christian perspective, even if it’s an unspoken one.

Here are seven fantasy fiction series my children love to have read and re-read….

“Fairy tales say that apples were golden only to refresh the forgotten moment when we found that they were green.

6 Fantastic Fantasy Series for Tweens and Teens https://club31women.com/fantastic-fantasy-series-tweens-teens/ Fri, 28 Oct 2016 00:00:25 +0000 http://club31women.com/?p=17955 6 Fantastic Fantasy Series for Tweens and Teens

I blame The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe for my love of the fantasy genre. As the pages turned, the cold snow bit my cheek, Mr. Tumnus’ tea burned my tongue, and Aslan’s roar of victory filled my ears.  I devoured the rest of The Chronicles of Narnia series and continued with A Wrinkle in Time, The Princess and The Goblin, The Hobbit, and many more.

Why the deep love for fantasy?

It’s a lot of fun! Where else can you strap on a sword to storm a castle, ride a flying horse, tame a dragon (or maybe kill one), battle goblins, and be true friends with royalty?

But more importantly, fantasy teaches honor, courage, and hard work. Even the basic fantasy reader knows that a true king is the first into battle and the last to leave.

Above all, though, the fantasy genre can give us a deeper understanding of God. C.S. Lewis is one of the masters of using fantasy elements to teach us more about God. In his series, The Chronicles of Narnia, Aslan is an example of Jesus Christ.

5 Great Ways to Give Your Child A Love for Reading https://club31women.com/5-great-ways-to-give-your-child-a-love-for-reading/ Tue, 16 Aug 2016 00:01:59 +0000 http://club31women.com/?p=15681 5 Great Ways to Give Your Child A Love for Reading

I feel rather sheepish to admit it.

But I used to despair that our oldest son would ever learn to read.

It seemed as if all the kids his age were reading. Everyone that is, except him.

Or, to be more precise, all his girl cousins were reading. But not him.

And I was baffled as to why.

He had a fine mind, and both my husband and I enjoy reading. He was raised in a “reading household.”

So why not him?

He simply wasn’t a reader, and I couldn’t figure out “where we’d gone wrong.” (Is that a mom-thought or what?)

But then when I’d almost given up all hope, I found the young boy curled up with a book. READING. I could hardly believe it!

And he quickly went from zero interest to an avid reader in one year’s time.

All that worrying had been for nothing.

So now that I’ve confessed my first-born agonies, I might as well tell you the rest.
